Professional Services: Audit, Tax, Consulting
Audit firms, tax practices, management consultancies, and advisory firms produce work products that are themselves evidence of professional standards being met. Papyrus structures their delivery so that quality reviews — peer reviews by ICPAK, IIA, or other bodies — pass routinely.
The engagement file
Each client engagement is a Papyrus workspace following the firm's audit / engagement methodology:
- Engagement letter
- Independence declarations
- Risk assessment
- Planning documents
- Working papers organised by area
- Schedules and analyses
- Client correspondence
- Manager and Partner review notes
- Final report draft and signed copy
- Subsequent events log
- Engagement closure memo
The file is retained per regulatory requirement (audit files: 7 years).
Working papers organisation
Working papers are structured by audit area (revenue, receivables, inventory, payables, payroll, etc.) with:
- Lead schedule
- Test of controls evidence
- Substantive procedure evidence
- Sample selection rationale
- Workpaper references back to the financial statements
- Preparer / reviewer sign-offs
Each workpaper is a Papyrus document with sign-off captured as a workflow approval.
Peer review readiness
ICPAK and IIA conduct quality assurance reviews on firms. Reviewers look at:
- Quality control system documentation (firm-level)
- Sample of engagement files (engagement-level)
- Independence and conflict-check records
- CPD records of professional staff
- Methodology and policy documents
Papyrus structures every one of these. The peer review becomes a 2-3 day exercise rather than a 2-week scramble.
Client confidentiality
Client engagement files are classified Confidential. Access is restricted to the engagement team plus quality review reviewers. Cross-engagement search by junior staff requires deliberate grant.
