SACCOs and Microfinance Institutions
Member records, group lending files, SASRA returns, board governance — purpose-built for Kenya's cooperative financial sector.
SACCOs and Microfinance Institutions
Kenya's SACCO and microfinance sector is unique — high member volumes, comparatively low average balances, group-based lending models, and a regulatory environment split between SASRA, Commissioner of Cooperatives, and CBK (for deposit-taking SACCOs). Papyrus is configured to handle this complexity out of the box.
Member documentation
Each member's file contains:
- Application form and BOSA membership commitment
- ID, KRA PIN, photo
- Next-of-kin and beneficiary forms
- Signature mandate
- Share certificate and capital subscription record
- Loan history (linked records for each loan)
- Group affiliation (where applicable)
Member files are scoped to the Membership Department; loan officers see only the loan portions; the member themselves can access via the Member Portal.
Group lending files
Group lending introduces shared accountability. The group's Papyrus workspace contains:
- Group constitution and bylaws
- Member roster with individual KYC
- Group-level loan applications
- Guarantor schedules
- Meeting minutes (digitised or scanned)
- Performance scorecards
SASRA returns and the supervisory posture
SASRA quarterly returns require structured data — capital adequacy, liquidity, NPL ratios, loan classification. Papyrus's analytics layer aggregates the relevant document data (loan file metadata + repayment status) and pre-populates the return for the Finance team to review and submit.
The board governance pack
SACCO boards meet monthly. The board pack workflow:
- Secretariat assembles board pack from previous board minute action items
- CEO and Heads of Department add departmental reports
- Papyrus generates the consolidated PDF
- Sent via expiring share links to board members
- Each board member acknowledges receipt
- Minutes taken during meeting, uploaded post-meeting
- Action items extracted as obligations with owners and deadlines
