Classification

Assigning a document to a known category (Invoice, Contract, Employee Record, etc.) — typically done by AI with a confidence score, sometimes confirmed by a human.

Classification

Classification is the act of assigning a document to a known category. In Papyrus, the AI classification pipeline runs on every uploaded document and predicts the category along with a confidence score (0.0–1.0).

Default categories include: Invoice, Contract, Employee Record, Memo, Board Minute, Tax Document, Compliance Certificate, Insurance Policy, ID Document, Bank Statement, Cheque, Receipt, Letter, Email, Report, Proposal, Quotation, Purchase Order, Delivery Note, etc.

Tenants can add custom categories (Business+ plans). Categories below a confidence threshold (default 0.70) route to a human review queue.

Classification feeds downstream actions: which folder the document lands in by default, which workflow auto-triggers, which retention policy applies, which extraction profile is used.
