Data Classification

Data classification is a synonym for confidentiality level — the sensitivity label that determines how a document can be handled. The term is most common in security and compliance literature; “confidentiality level” is more common in operational contexts.

In Papyrus, the four data classifications are: Public, Internal, Confidential, Restricted. They map directly to enforcement policies for sharing, downloading, watermarking, and external access.

Don't confuse data classification with document classification (also “category”): the former is about sensitivity (how secret), the latter is about type (what kind of document).

A single document has both. An invoice (category: Invoice) might be classified Internal; a board minute (category: Board Minute) is usually Confidential or Restricted.
