Offline Reading and Device Security

Keep encrypted board packs on your laptop or phone, read them without a connection, and what happens when a device is lost: report it and it erases everything the next time it connects.

Offline Reading and Device Security

In the browser

Under Profile → Offline reading and devices:

  1. Set up this device. The browser makes a key that never leaves it.
  2. Switch on offline reading — you confirm it's you first. Your current packs are downloaded, encrypted, onto this device.
  3. Open the offline reader to read without a connection. Notes you make offline are sent the next time you sync.

Copies stay readable for a limited time (72 hours by default) unless the device checks in. Packs you should no longer hold — a newer version, an item you were recused from — are removed at the next sync. Signing out of the board workspace erases the copies and keys from this browser.

In the Papyrus app

Open Board portal in the app (or Board director? Open the board portal on the sign-in screen) and sign in with your email, password and authenticator code. The app registers itself as one of your devices.

  • Security → Switch on offline reading keeps encrypted copies on the phone.
  • The app locks when idle and when you come back to it; unlock with your fingerprint, face or device PIN, or with your authenticator code.
  • On Android, board screens are hidden from screenshots and the recent-apps view, and board copies are never included in phone backups.
  • Downloads and printing stay in the browser workspace.

If a device is lost

From any signed-in device (or ask the secretariat), go to devices and choose Report lost. At once:

  • the device's sign-ins and tokens stop working;
  • the next time it connects — to anything — it is told to erase every board copy and key, and confirms that it has.

A device that never held offline copies is simply removed. Removing a device you still have also erases it.

For the secretariat

Settings → Director security sets second-factor rules, idle lock, guest session length, whether offline copies, downloads, printing and copying are allowed at all, and how long offline copies stay readable. Settings → Devices lists every device and can order a wipe.
