Bring-ups and the Court Diary — Quick Guide
Run your day from two lists: bring-ups (files to action) and the court diary (where you must appear). How to add, assign, clear and print them.
Bring-ups and the Court Diary — Quick Guide
Two tools, two jobs. Both are at the top of Legal Practice Management in the menu.
| Bring-ups | Court Diary | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Files to bring forward — a follow-up someone must action | Court appearances — a slot someone must attend |
| Examples | Chase the registry, call the client, review the file | Mention, hearing, ruling, filing deadline |
| Menu badge | Due today + overdue (red if anything is late) | Your appearances today |
Bring-ups
Start your day
Open Bring-ups. It opens on today for you.
- The four counters at the top — Overdue · Due today · This week · Assigned by me — are shortcuts. Click one to jump to that list.
- If anything is overdue, a red banner stays above today's list until it is cleared.
- Use Day / Week and the ◀ ▶ arrows to look ahead; Today brings you back.
Whose list
- Mine — assigned to you.
- Assigned by me — what you handed to someone else and are waiting on.
- All matters — every bring-up on matters you can open (partners and admins see the whole firm).
Add a bring-up
- From anywhere: New bring-up → pick the matter, say what needs doing, choose the date.
- From a matter: Bring-Ups tab → Add bring-up.
Leave Assign to empty and it goes to the matter lead. Tick Repeat for regular reviews.
Clear it
On each row:
- ✔ Mark done — add what was done and, if needed, tick Bring the file up again to set the next date in the same step.
- 💤 Snooze — tomorrow, in 3 days, next Monday, or a date you pick. It comes back on that day.
- 👤 Reassign — hand it to a colleague.
To act on several at once, tick them and use the bar that appears: Reassign · Mark done · Snooze.
Assign to a colleague
Pick anyone in the firm — advocate, clerk or secretary. People on the matter's team are marked ★. They get a notification and an email, and it shows under your Assigned by me until they clear it.
Print the list
Print → One section per person (best for the morning BF meeting) or One section per date (best for a week). The printout matches what is on screen, lists overdue items first, and has a blank Action taken column to write on.
Court Diary
See who is appearing where
Open Court Diary.
- My appearances shows hearings you are attending — or, where nobody is named, hearings on matters you lead.
- Whole firm shows every appearance you can see; filter by Appearing to see one advocate's day.
- Day / Week / Range and ◀ ▶ work as on bring-ups.
Send someone else to court
Click the name in the Appearing column and choose a colleague. Their court-prep bring-up (created automatically three days before the hearing) moves to them, so the person appearing is the person preparing.
You can also choose who is appearing when you add the event on the matter's Court Diary tab.
After court
Rows in the past show Record outcome — open the matter and record what happened (e.g. “Adjourned to 15 Oct”). Then add a bring-up for the next step.
Print the cause list
Print cause list gives the day or week as a PDF: time, court, matter, cause number, judge and who is appearing, with space for the outcome.
Every morning
At about 6:30 am you receive one message — in Papyrus and by email — with two parts: in court today and bring-ups due today / overdue, each linking straight to its list. You can switch the email off in your notification preferences.
